Metamorphosis

Halted during its slow journey to the other side,
A common turtle lay clumsily split in two.
His natural armor offered little protection
From Man’s four-wheel driven nightmare,
And he became just another unlisted casualty.

As the surging ocean’s unrelenting roar
Announces the arrival of land’s end,
A hummingbird prepares for birthing
By hurriedly picking dandelion seeds
To further warm her soon to be filled nest.

Pear Blossoms

A chickadee messenger warns
Of grosbeaks waiting by the feeder
In a hypothermic daze.
Late April.  Wind, rain, sleet and hail
Hasten the daffodils demise.
Now, tulips are reluctant,
Oriental poppies terrified.

With seed and wood in short supply
I try to calculate the number
Of times the hourglass must be turned
Before the pear blossoms appear.

Amanita Cloud

For centuries the Sacred Mushroom Ritual
Has been a vehicle for reaching Eternity.
We need not risk physical ingestion,
And the possible effects of its deadly poison,
If we symbolically see this visual keyhole
As showing us the way to that other world
Far beyond our day to day comprehension.

To screen the moon     Light
Increases shadows depth
